My GQ4-X programmer has stopped reading 24C eeproms, it will read other eeproms but just not the 24C range. I checked the chip had something on it by using another programmer but its not the first 24C range it hasnt read. Used to be fine just wondering if i have altered a setting which i cant see.
Anybody else come across this? |

No, he stated his ZIF is bad after dismantling it so no solder or dlux will do. |

Like I said previously, lots of videos on YouTube depict how to do it the proper way.
Here is a classic one using ancient Pace equipment. I do not use Pace irons except for ThermoBond Cir-Kit application.

If you have been doing it for 40+ years and it takes you more than 5m for such a common job you most certainly need to revise the way you do it. |

In reality it takes about 2.5s to unsolder each pins and 1.5s to solder them back. That is if you do it manually, using a solder bath would be dramatically shorter. The longest part of the operation would be waiting for your irons to reach their temperature, about 1m, if you start from cold.
YouTube is already full of videos showing how to change parts on PCBs.
If you are not familiar with soldering equipment you are better of paying more to let a machine or someone else do it correctly. |

5 minutes really, 7.5 seconds a pin to desolder, refit and solder a new one
Can you post your 5 minute long video of you changing one on youtube, when you have to change one. |

Changing the ZIF takes no more than 5 minutes unless you don't have the proper tools. |

Thanks for the tip, took the programmer apart and checked the ZIF socket put it back together and it worked once, messed about with the ZIF socket and it worked again so looks like a i need a new ZIF socket, No in stock and they are under a £10 but postage to the UK is £28 so it might be worth buying a new programmer and trying to bodge my old one. |

Hi, ok
so if I go to test H/W , voltage diag, what pins on the zif socket are for what voltage, as we need to test for good contact, like I say I had one pin on the zif socket not making contact with the track/side connector,

Thanks for that, already tried numerous chips all read blank, contacted tech for a cost for the service but with shipping etc it might work out better to buy a new one. |

Use a good known 24CXX DIP chip to try, no adapter, lock the chip on the ZIF socket. if it is not working too then the programmer need a service. |

Make sure you placed the chip on the ZIF socket correctly. The 24C EEPROM should not have any problem. Make sure you select correct device in the software. Different 24C chip has different algorithm.
