Pulled an old GQ-4X out of the cupboard, it used to work OK, so I downloaded and installed the signed driver to run on Windows 10 on rel 6.38 programmer software.
Everything seems to work OK except when writing to a SST27SF512.
"Write failed address/buffer/device" of varying results, but very early in the operation.
It used to work OK without power supply on same laptop under earlier windows versions, tried various ports and get the following error messages.
I ran the voltage diagnostic with varying results. VCC 5V and 5.5V test failed "too high" and VPP 12V test failed "too high". This test returned varying results when repeated.
Is this a simple case of I need a power supply or is there more to the situation ?

Sounds more like an internal voltage régulation problem.
