Hi, having no luck reading Intel 28FXXX flash devices with my TOP2005. I am using a PLCC 32 to DIP 32 adapter socket. Much of what is read shows up as 0xFFs. Have been told before that it could be related to USB power capabilities?? Have also tried the programmer on two different laptops and one desktop....same results. If it is USB power drive capability, how can I get more current to the programmer?
Any advice is welcome Doug |

Can you get the ID correctly? If so, your chip may be a empty chip.

Thanks for the reply. The chip isn't empty, I pulled it from a functioning board and tried to read it. It doesn't all show up as FFs, kind of a every-other-byte is accurate pattern. Like a bad address or data line? That was my first guess, but three different chips all with the same result? Thanks again Doug |

You may try to use other read compatible device to read first. eg. 27CXXX EPROM. See if it can read. Also, check the orientation of the chip in the PLCC32 adapter is right, as well as the adpter in the ZIF position is correct. |

Sorry for the lengthy delay. Good questions, it seems to read and write 27CXXX devices just fine. Also, I initially expected my 'crude' PLCC to DIP adapter was the problem. So, I bought professionally fabricated adapter and still have the same problem. I am quite frustrated and just don't know what to do about this. Thanks |

I have the same problem. I am unable to program any 28F series flash roms. I have 4 different programmers including the top2005 and no luck. Did you find your problem?
