Looking for a universal programmer.

Was thinking of the Top or Easypro or something similar
as they seem to support more devices than True USB willem

Firs I was looking for more high-end, like SmartPRO X5 or X8 (when is
that coming?), EasyPRO 800 USB Universal EPROM Programmer etc.
Even the Beeprog+, but that was so expensive...

After comparing devices, found that the EasyPRO 90B USB Universal EPROM Programmer could do most I want to use for now, like mainly Mircochip, Atmel AVR (Atmega8L and newer), PAL/GAL and pc biosses.
That would save me some money which I can spend on adapters.
Can allways go for a High-end later if needed.

But in the FAQ for True USB Willem Programmer (GQ-2X, GQ-3X) I noticed these comments:

* Support TSOP48, PSOP44, 16 bit chips that TOP,EasyPro 40pin are
not capable of supporting
*Competative & much better software performance than brand, like TOP

Now, this puzzles me.
Willem has less devices listed then TOP or Easypro but Willem supports devices that TOP or Easypro can't?
Does Willem do Atmega8L?

What programmer, do you recommend for my needs? (It has to be USB)
Especially for long term use?
How will Willem true usb evolve in the future?
Will it get support for more exotic devices to? (Motorola?)
Will PLD (Pal, Gal), FPGA etc be possible in the future?

If not Willem, which do you recommend then?

Is one of your (more expensive) programmers comparable with Beeprog+?

For AVR ISP, which kit do you recommend, fur use with usb?
It has to be AVRDude and Atmel AVR Studio compatible.

Hope not to many questions in 1 post.
Thanks in advance.

EasyPRO 90B is a pretty good programmer. It is a well designed and defined in a low-end professional universal programmer class.
The True-USB Willem is a new developed hobby class high-end programmer. So, it even has no case. However, the development is a on-going task, it needs time. There are more chips will be supported .Such as PIC chips and AVR chips.
For the AVR ISP chips, if you want to use with the AVR Studio, then the AVRISP programmer is the best, since it specifically designed for AVR Studio. The universal programmer always use it own software.
