I programmed the PIC12F629 that was given but I want to program a PIC16F737.
Its a 28pin chip, so I put it all the way on the last socket (I even tried both ends). Then I wasn't getting the red LED to work, so I changed the (1-2)config pins to the (2-3)pins. Does this actually mean I need external voltage if I program a chip bigger than 18pins?
I'm just confused for the moment. |

you do not need the external power.
What is your JDM version? ZIF or V2 socket type? Does the red LED on while reading 12F629 ?

Im using the: Enhanced JDM PIC programmer 4 Microchip 12F629 New V2
The red LED is on while programming both chips. To get the 8-pin 12F629 I have the 2-3 pin configuration. And the red light is only on for the 28-pin 16F737 if I have 1-2 pin configuration. It seems all is setup correctly. The chip could somehow be messed up but I cant really say that just yet. |

And I have the microchips pin #1 all the way on the opposite side of the rs232 contact of the chip, which seems to be correct. |

I looked up the specs and it seems all the pins are the same for the 28-pin PIC chips. |

Since you can program 12F629, then the programmer, comport and its connection are ok.
The jumper on adapter should keep same as 12F629. And the chip position should be "pin #1 all the way on the opposite side of the rs232 contact of the chip".
Do not change any parameter in the software.
Try different software. Such as ICProg, WinPIC800, winpicpgm. |

Well, I tried those other ones before. PICPgm finally worked. For anyone reading this, if you have the JDM 2 Enhanced:
1. Keep the 2-3 pin config on the JDM. 2. Plug the JDM in (green light on). Run PICPgm with no PIC int the socket. 3. Make sure JDM programmer is selected in the program (if not, change to JDM and restart the application).
4. It should say JDM connected. 5. Plug in your PIC (for 16F pin number one goes on the opposite side of the RS232 socket). 6. Click "AutoDetect PIC", it should find it.
