Hello,

Sorry for the basic question, I've managed to wipe the AMI BIOS of my Asrock P45R2000-wifi and would like to reflash it. I have a PIC programmer (PICSTART Plus, from Microchip), the BIOS chip is a Winbond 25X80VAIZ. Can I use this kit to do it and is there a FAQ on how to burn a BIOS chip anywhere? I don't know if I have to make any mods to the BIOS file which I've downloaded from the Asrock website, also I'm not sure if I start writing from memory loc 0 or have to start elsewhere. Is there a protected area? Can I just use the Microchip software to burn the chip?

Thanks in advance for your help.

The PICStart Plus only supports PIC chips, not the BIOS chips.

To program your 25X80 BIOS chip, you can either select GQ-3X(slower) or GQ-4X(faster).

If your chip is soldered on the PCB and it has a SPI header, then you can use a jump wire to program the chip. It your mother board does not have a SPI header, then you may need to take off the chip and program it on the programmer ZIF socket directly.
