I am sure most of you are aware of using SST27SF512 chips for Honda Eproms with an offset of 8000H.

And as most of you I use common programs for creating the 32 KB bin files which will be burned on to the chip.

The problem I am facing is that I want to be able to use the chips I burn for the application (Vehicle EPROM) but protect the content from being read by the original editing software or perhaps from being copied.

All UV erasavle ROM are not protected, it should be read out easily from a EPROM programmer.

Honda used OKI who made a propietary MCU like the 66207 used in the majority of OBD-I vehicles and the Pre OBD (OBD-0) MCUs using 83 C154 MCUs both of these are DIP 64 while the OBD-II systems using 66507 MCUs are PLCC68 based for all three you have to use a dumper to extract the data. and anyone who has a stock ECU with a Honda installed external rom will say "The ECU will read and use the external ROM (which is a UV erasable ROM) but cannot read it unless the rig up a dummper.

The reason for using SST27SF512 chips with an offset of 8000HB for Honda Eproms is a low cost solution of replacing AT29C256 flash chip.
But all EPROM/flash are the only storage devices, they are not protected from the reading. No way to do that form EPROM/Flash it self.

The only way to encrypt your data in the EPROM/flash is that you have to add another decryption chip. And it works together with the regular flash chip, such as 27SF512, 29C256 etc. Each decryption chip has a unique key and only user know the key.
