My Usb reader GQ-3X arrived today, installed the program first from the CD, installed the usb driver 2nd, and i put an eprom Atmel 27C512R with a PLCC32-DIP28 adapter, to test my device.
Put the correct device on the program, Id showed up but it changes after some clicks ?!? Furthermore when i read the binary from my Atmel in even on -2 speed, everytime it gives a different file !
What is the culprit ? Anything i forgot at start ?

Ok I GOT my reaplacement this friday.
Its working as it should ! Thank you !
Is there anything i can do with the old adapter or should i trhow it away ?
(I dont have a solder suction type gun.) |

OK I DID SOME MEASUREMENTS, THE MORE RED THE WORSE. BLUE ONES ARE THE VOID.
ALL MEASUREMENTS WERE DONE FROM THE PLCC PINS TO THE DIP PINS BELOW, NOT ON THE SOLDER JOINTS ON THE PCB.
I FOUND THREE PROBLEMATIC PINS.
THE ORANGE WAS MAKING CIRCUIT VERY DIFFICULT, HAD TO PUSH THE DIP FEET BACK AND FORTH TO MAKE IT RANDOMLY SHOW CIRCUITY.
THE YELLOW ONES WERE KIDNA DODGY, DIDNT MAKE A CONSISTENT CIRCUITY EASY. (USING THE BEEPER IN MY MULTIMETER)
NOW HOW DO I RE-SOLDER THE DIP SPIKES TO THE PCB SINCE THE JOINT IS UNREACHABLE ?
CANT YOU SEND ME A REPLACEMNT ? I HAVE ONLY USED IT IN THREE SUCESFULL PLCC READS, BEFORE MALFUNTIONING !

That is good. The programmer is working.
The adapter is a socket type adapter. So, with a multi meter, it is easy to check if any pin in the socket not contacting with DIP pin, then you can just re-solder that pin on the PCB.
Anyway, if you socket is with in warranty and never worked before, then you can write to support@mcumall.com for the replacement.
If you are mainly working on the PLCC32 chip, then I will suggest you to get the ZIF version socket.
It has much longer life time and much easy to use, higher reliability.

I have isopropyl Alcohol i'll make a sweep.
But what about the lifted IC foot ??!?
At the last picture you can see that the IC pin is doing a wheelie !

It is hard to say what is wrong now. We can just wait for your DIP 28 chip test result. For now, you can check the big regtangle 80 pin chip on upper left PCB, see if any pins have soldering problem.

Well guess what ? IT didnt work :) !
I unscrewed the top lid of the ZIF to check underneath but nothing fishy was found...
Checked again today with the classic adapter, same faulty readings
ZLM is there a possibility for any IC on the board to be faulty and causing this mess ? I will have a 28DIP in a weeks time, i'll check it then. |

If you suggest in using a plcc32-28dip, its what i used all the way along except from one test with a 32plcc/32dip for an id check.
Dip32 adapter does not show any useful binary data. |

The adapter must be PLCC32-DIP28 for the chip AT27C512R.
It is best if you can test it with the DIP 28 chip. That will confirm if the problem is on the programmer. If it is on the programmer side, then you may need to return the programmer for the replacement.
My feeling is the problem on the adapter.

Ok i Soldered as much pins i could reach on the adapter, (not some dip pins, under the plcc socket)
Put same Atmel chip which identified previously ok but now it displays the ID of my chip to be a motorola or an immos chip nothing else !?!
EDIT: And now i tried the plcc32-dip32 adapter instead of the DIP 28 only to check the id
and it displays my Atmel as Immos chip again.
Should i try soldering the socket pins on the board ?
Unfortunately i dont have dip 32 chips at the momnet only some plcc's
EDIT2: Ok i did that too (soldering the ZIF socket), nothing changed. Somewhere along the day the program told me that my Programmer is out of synch please reconnect the USB, i dunno if that helps.
I suspect if there is a contact issue it must be inside the ZIF socket |

I suspect there are contacting problems on the adapter.
Can you resoldering each solder point on the adapter? Especially the adapter DIP pin solder points.
If you have many PLCC32 chip to programming, I recommend you to use ZIF version PLCC32-DIP adapter.

Ok for some reason, today no windows reboot no program reboot, no reader unpluging, no chip re-seating, no nothing makes the reader read the same chip twice and give the same file !
Whats with the programmer ? Any other clues ?
When i remove the chip and hit the READ button it gives me a blank binary if that helps somehow.
I used a PLCC AT27C512R with plcc 32 adapter because i found a perfect match at the device list, in case my settings was false. I used the slowest speed too !

Ok it worked straight away.
It was the trick with the standing adapter, or because i restarted the computer after the installation ?!? (duh)

It seems there are contacting issues between programmer and the chip. Please check all pin contactings between chip and adapter, adapter and programmer socket.
Try to not push the chip too deep into the adapter socket. That will help on the contacting.
Aso, try a DIP32 type EPROM without the adapter, see if it works. |
