Just wondering if theres any way to speed up read/write on this chip, as i also have another device that can program this chip in 6 seconds (the other programmer is actually designed to be used in system, but i rigged up an adapter and supplied 3.3v to vcc, hold and W so it can be used externally)

any progress on speed up?

I know this device. It is a very good design. But it is a dedicated device, not a universal programmer. We will do optimization on those chips in the future.

yeah i do understand that things need to be generic and as such theres a balance between speed and how versitile the device is.

the device is a usbjtag nt which is a jtag device that also supports pretty much any SPI chip.

however 4-5x speed up would take programming time down to around 45-60 seconds, which would be excellent, currently approx 4 mins read and write, which makes a total of 8 minutes with verify on.

If the device is designed only for that chip, the all the protocol commands are generated by hardware. It can be very fast. Sine the universal programmer hardware must be generic for all devices, so it can not be that fast as a dedicated hardware.
There are rooms for speeding up on this chip(2-5 times faster), but I believe it can not be faster than dedicated devices.
