I just got a GQ-4X today, and downloaded and installed the USB 2.01 driver, and then USBPrg 5.0. Upon launch, I get this error:

Unhandled exception at 0x00144490 in USBPrg.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation.

I first tried setting this up in an XP SP3 virtual machine inside virtualbox running under a Linux host. I then tried it on separate machine running XP SP3 natively, and the error is the same. Then, I tried a machine running Windows 7 x64, and it started up properly.

I need to run this on an XP SP3 machine; should I try earlier versions of the software? Of the USB driver? Since I just got this programmer today, USBPrg 5.0 and driver 2.01 is the only combination I've tried so far.

Thanks for the update.

To do this, normally by following DEP setting steps:

Click Start, click Control Panel, and then double-click System.

Click the Advanced tab. Then, under Performance, click Settings.

Click the Data Execution Prevention tab.

If you selected the OptOut policy, click Add and add the applications that you do not want to use DEP with.

It turns out the software requires that you have data execution protection explicitly disabled for USBPrg.exe.

As a rule, you get the 0xc0000005 error message when you try to start one of your software programs in Windows. After that the program terminates and you can’t get it work. Also, the 0xc0000005 error code may appear in other different error messages, depending on the software you are trying to start or install or the action you are trying to execute on your computer. The most typical causes for the ‘0xc0000005: Access Violation’ error are a faulty RAM or device driver, incorrectly written, installed or updated software, malware applications or even Windows security features.

Your computer may have a virus and the 0xc0000005 error informs that the system prevented the execution of a malicious application. Install the latest version of an antivirus program and scan your system. It is very important to regularly scan your system for malware!

What sort of information do you need? Can the software produce a debug log on boot or some such?

The software is developped on a Windows XP SP3. So, it should work with Windows XP SP3. So for no user report this error since the 4.04 software been released over the 3 month.

We need more inforamtion on the error in order to find out why. The problem may also be related to your Windows XP configuration too.

I just tried 4.04, which is what was on the disc that was packaged with my programmer, and that fails too.
