Hi all,

Last month I programmed 4 ST M27C256B EPROMs without any problem. I tried again today and now I get write/verify errors. This is what I get:

Chip is blank
ID check skipped
Writing... Code
Elapsed time: 16.24 seconds.
Write failed, Address=0x0001DA, Buffer=0x26 Device=0x02
Write failed
ID check skipped
Verifying... Code
VerifyFailed, Address=0x000002, Device=0xFF, Buffer=0xCE
VerifyFailed
Elapsed time: 6.60 seconds.

I'm using the same type of EPROM as before and I UV erased them twice. I was able to verify a previously programmed EPROM without problem. The only difference I can see is the date codes are different. I tried this on 2 devices and I get the same error. Can someone help?

Thanks.

I think the high voltage power supply on the programmer is shot. I measured 2.6V on the Vpp pin while programming. The Vcc pin seemed okay at 6.12V. I hope this thing is still under warranty! I only bought this back in February.

Does it always fail at same address location?

Try another good chip you know.

Try to read and verify for a few times see if it pass.

Write the good chip if possible.

This will avoid the chip problem. Sometime the chip problem will cause the random error too.

ID check matches device. Pushing IC doesn't seem to help.

On first IC, the write fails with this message:

ID check OK
Writing... Code
Elapsed time: 2.56 seconds.
Write failed, Address=0x000082, Buffer=0xBE Device=0x00
Write failed

On another IC, the write command finishes and I get this for the verify command:

Device write completed OK
ID check OK
Verifying... Code
VerifyFailed, Address=0x000002, Device=0xFF, Buffer=0x00
VerifyFailed
Elapsed time: 2.63 seconds.

Click on ID button, make sure you can get correct ID of the chip.

Enable the ID checkbox in the Auto section.

Check pin contact. Lock the chip on programmer and and then push the chip left-right to get better pin contact.
