I'm new to this forum. I've some basic electronic background and computer savvy. I do part time automotive diagnostic (vehicle's ECU) work for a living.
Recently, I've been asked to extend my work to cover the vehicle's immobilizer. Mainly to disable, erase or clean the chip on the ECU so that the vehicle can start with the immobilizer out of the way.
I've done some research and found the GQ-4X along with a set of SOIC-8 clip with the assembled harness and immobilizer cleaner software may do the job, but sceptical.
Qestions :
1) :
Would the tools comprising GQ-4X Programmer,SOIC-8 clip and assembled harness,along with Immo 2 cleaner software (I have the Immo 2 cleaner software) do the job, i.e. mainly to disable, by-pass, clean or erase the immobilizer chip fuction.
2) :
Can the GQ-4X erase the immobilizer chip using the GQUSB software which is bundled with the programmer without resorting to using third party immobilizer cleaner software ?
Before I purchase the tools, I hope any one of you forumers and guru could enlighten me on the above questions.
Any help or suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

If the chip doesnt support "erase" the software will tell you.
If you want to erase the chip, just program a blank buffer to it. |

Thanks for the advice. If some EEPROM cannot be erased, how does one disable the chip function ?

The GQ-4X programmer software support Erase command on chip, as long as the chip support erase function.
As I know many EEPROM chips do not support erase function. That because those chips does not need to be erased before write new data. |

Thanks for your advice. I appreciate it.
I understand from McuMall's write up the bundled software for the GQ-4X is quite comprehensive. Since I've yet to buy the GQ-4X, perhaps you can enlighten me on whether the software or the program driver has a special function or command mainly to erase the supported chip without having to overwrite the chip. In other word, just erase the chip without re-programming.

If the chip is supported (and writable, which it should be) then the GQ-4X will be able to erase it (i.e. blank).
You might find that the clip doesnt work so well, programming in system without removing the chip is hit and miss in my experience. |
