It could be your data file error OR chip.

make sure you have connected correctly and no contacting problem.

If you are connecting to a target board, then keep the cable shorter.

I keep getting this error and have tried several different CPLD and two different computers.

Please wait...Writing...
Error at address 7481: bounds error.
Program terminated.
Elapsed time = 00:00:03

Same result with both .stapl and .jbc files.

Any advice what could be wrong?
ZLM Posted - 02/29/2012 : 00:34:21
I think there are some thing wrong with the software on opening the stapl file.

Try another way: use jbc.exe to convert your *.stapl file to .jbc file.

Then open the .jbc file instead of .stapl file.
You can find the jbc.exe from download page.

Your iMPACT version is good. No problem with it.

The good news is the XC2C64A is working with GQ-4X. Another user confirmed this.

I've tried opening the file as *.bin, *.stapl and every other format listed. When I click "Write" and the "JTAG Programming" window comes up, the buffer is empty. Clicking "File Information" does nothing; no popups or errors.

If you can't try opening the file I provided, could you at least tell me the latest version of iMPACT that is known to generate .stapl files that can be opened by ver 6.14c? Perhaps post a link to a known good sample .stapl file so I can try opening that?

When open the file on second window, use File type as *.bin. The default is .S format, which is not correct.

Would someone mind trying to open this Xilinx STAPL file in ver 6.14c to see if you get the same result? Or better yet, provide a known good sample Xilinx STAPL file that works with 6.14c so I can do a test write to a XC9572XL-44VQ?

ZLM,
Thank you for the suggestion. I unchecked that box, closed the app, started again and opened the file. This time I did not receive the "Data file not loaded into buffer" popup when I hit the "Write" button. However, the buffer is still empty. If you try to open the file I provided with 6.14c, I imagine you'll run across the same issue.

Thanks!

ZLM,
I'm using a GQ-4X w/ 6.14c (plus iMPACT 13.4) and appear to be having the same problem as zeti. I successfully generated a 280KB .stapl file using iMPACT per the given instructions, but when I go to "Write", the buffer in the JTAG Programming window is empty. Here are the steps I am taking...

1. File -> Open
2. Select .staple file
3. Change file format to Xilinx STAPL Files (read normal, fill normal, offset 0)
4. Click the "Write" icon

I receive a popup that says "Data file not loaded into buffer". If I go to "File" and select the same file from the list of recently used, it does not throw any error popups, but when I go to write, the buffer is empty. Are there any known issues with the software parsing Xilinx .stapl files generated by later versions of iMPACT? Here is the file I'm trying to open...

Thank you!

Okay. Thank you ZLM. That took me a huge step further.

I've got a ZLM File now for this CPLD with the chip configuration. Now I select Xilinx 3.3V Device in GQUSBprg. Then I File->Open that .stapl file and click on one of the action buttons in GQUSBprg. The JTAG Dialog opens with an empty "log" or whatever this window is meant to be. Iclick on write and log says "Please wait...Writing..." and nothing happens.

I don't think writing is done that fast. The ADP-056 demo video shows commands in this log window. these look similar to the commands in the STAPL-file but they are missing here.

What's my mistake here?

See:
h**p://www.xilinx.com/itp/xilinx10/isehelp/pp_p_process_generate_svf_file.htm

You can use the output from the Generate Programming File process, a JED or ISC file, to create an SVF, XSVF, or STAPL (JTAG) file that can be downloaded into the CPLD’s memory cells. SVF, XSVF, and STAPL files are used to relay JTAG information, such as verification of data and in-circuit-testing instructions, and programming data. This procedure opens iMPACT, and in iMPACT you can create the JTAG file for download.

Run the Generate Programming File process on the top module .

To Generate an SVF, XSVF, or STAPL File
1. In the Processes tab, expand Configure Target Device.
2. Optional. Right-click the Manage Configuration Project (iMPACT) process and select Properties from the right-click menu. In the iMPACT Programming Tool Properties dialog box, specify an iMPACT project file (IPF) for the iMPACT Project File property.
3. Double-click Manage Configuration Project (iMPACT).
4. Once iMPACT opens, create your SVF, XSVF, or STAPL file. For more information, see the Generating and Executing SVF, XSVF or STAPL Files section of the Procedures chapter in the iMPACT Help.

iMPACT opens.
#9702; If no iMPACT Project File is selected, iMPACT will automatically create one for you called ISE_Project_Name.ipf. Then you can specify the type of output file you wish to create.
#9702; If you specified an IPF in the iMPACT Project File property before running this process, your JTAG chain is displayed in the iMPACT interface.

#8226; For more information about using iMPACT, see the iMPACT Help.

Hi,

i've got the GQ-4X and the ADP-056 JTAG/SPI in circuit programming adapter. Can you please give me hints how to get or generate such a STAPL file and use it with GQUSBprg?

On the board with the Xilinx XC2C64A Chip are Connectors VCC/GND/TCK/TDD/TDI/TMS for JTAG. What do I have to do to get it to work with the 4X?

Thanks in advance.

this chip is not in the list.

But if you can get .stapl file for your chip, then it should work.
