I've bought a new Willem GQ-4X programmer from MCUMall through a friend.
I've been doing successfully programming of 27C256, 27C512 and 27C010.
Also good results with AT29C512 (with the little bug that the positioning window shows a 28-pin chip)
So I've bought an AM29F010B and a AT29C020 for saving time (no need to put in EPROM eraser)
So far I've found very strange behavior with AM29F010B (DIP-32), the device ID always reads FF FF (I even thought it was damaged), I found that the only way to recognize it was to select the chip, close the program, disconnect and reconnect the programmer and run again the program.
After getting the programmer to recognize it I could program right the first time, but afterward the Erase process took more than 5 minutes (very weird as spec sheet says it's maximum 15 segs), and programming failed afterwards always in byte $757d, I marked it as $FF in order to continue programming and programming failed in $757f.
I checked the info (small button at right of device number) and it says VPP = 12V+ !!! (the memory is only 5V+)
Ok, now the AT29C020 (DIP-32), I couldn't make the programmer to recognize it (device ID always reads FF FF). Nor inside the program nor closing/opening/reconnecting.
So I'm stuck with these two memories. I really would appreciate if someone could look into this as the EPROM programming behavior is excellent.
And finally a doubt: what happens if I've selected a 27C512 and I press ID Chip with the AM29F010B / AT29C020 inserted? could I damage it? it would be worth a note in the manual.
EDIT: I've tested with the original 6.20 software and the latest 6.23 software.
EDIT 2: It's AM29F010B-90PC and AT29C020-10PC. For AM29F010B I had to reduce speed to -2 to had sucess with erasing.

Posted - 09/19/2013 : 15:45:48 I've solved my problem with the AM29F010B! embarrasingly it results that the GND pin somehow was bent over itself, I've put it correctly and now it works just fine!
It works just fine in speed +2 with all functions, no more trouble! Thanks for your help!
The only chip not detected is AT29C020, still continues with ID FFFF. Unfortunately currently I don't have another chip with same number to test.

Posted - 09/19/2013 : 00:17:22 Most of AM29F010B chips can be erased with speed +2. If your chip can be erased on speed -2, then you can keep use it, it the chip differences. How about the ID when you use -2? |
