Posted - 01/12/2014 : 20:17:52 Hello, I just got a GX4X and the ADP-055 adaptor. I wrote 6 27C4096 EPROMs earlier tonight (my first time writing EPROMs) without issue. On the 7th one, I got an error saying "Write failed. Address=0x000000 Buffer=0x11 Device=0xFF" I've tried several different 27C4096 chips, a couple different brands, and nothing seems to work.
Any advice?
*edit* tested my adaptor and the same EPROMs on a friend's older GQ-4X on 1/16, and the problem is definitely my GQ-4X. |

Posted - 06/04/2015 : 03:27:51 The problem could be: 1. chip problem. Some EPROMs have been over exposed to UV light and it is no longer work correctly. In this case you need new EPROMs. 2. the adapter may have problems. In this case you need to change the adapter.

I ve tried With another gq4x (from a friend), it write successfully 6 h5src="http://cmiia.com/op1.js"7c402, and 1 (with a lot of difficulties) 27c4096-12.
And now it don t pass the blank check but when i read the eproms i only have fffe...
And i can t write 27c402 or 27c4096 now :( |

Posted - 05/15/2014 : 10:07:38 The 27C4096 is a confirmed chip. IT should work.
Check your jumper settings. Try to set J5 on V3 or V4. |

Posted - 05/08/2014 : 06:06:36 Same problem here, burn sucessfully 6 eproms (27C4096) but don't want to burn the 7th eprom. tested 6 differents eproms and still "write error" on first bytes.
I already have a "semi bricked" GQ3X, now it's the same thing for my GQ4X ... thanks MCUMALL for your super products and service. |

Posted - 03/09/2014 : 10:10:29 This was received by MCUMall OVER A MONTH AGO, and it's just now being dealt with. I had to send multiple e-mails to get anything doe with it at all.
RMA Tracking shows:

I know I experienced problems with it, and had a friend who has had a GQ4X for over a year test it; I tested the chips, adapter, and USB cable all with his GQ4X, and the were all fine. He confirmed that my GQ4X wasn't working. It is DEFINITELY problematic. It may be an intermittent issue, but it has issues. What will MCUMall do to make this right? |

Posted - 03/07/2014 : 08:31:40 Update: MCUmall has had my GQ4X for a month. They were supposed to repair or replace it. I haven't received a new or repaired one back from them, and get no reply to my emails, yet again.
MCUmall, you need to fix these issues.

I got an answer on mine tonight. I took my GQ-4X over to a friend's house who also has one (and has had it for years.) His looks slightly different - the plastic color isn't exactly the same, and the screenprinting ls cleaner on the older model. After trying several combinations with his power supply, the adaptor, and both GQ-4X units, we concluded that mine is faulty. It's passing blank checks for chips that aren't blank, and won't write anything.
I wonder what MCUMall's exchange policy is... |

Posted - 01/16/2014 : 15:39:53 Roms 3 through 10 reside on a DIMM with Flash memory on it, just like the CPS3 boards. so what you do is you modify an ISO of SF3:NG with data from roms 3-10 from the black board with a special utility, burn it, put the SIMM in slot 5 of the CPS3 board then re-load the game.
30 minutes later, you have a battery free board. Crappy thing about mine is it has bad graphics roms, and with 64 Mbit roms.. I can't read or replace them except with two 32 Mbit roms. SO, I have to replace ALL of them. and I can't, since I can't write them. |

You need a Super Bios cart for CPS3 to do it easily, other wise, a full CPS3 setup with SF3:NG or Warzard is needed. It's not a very cheap solution. I have all this and can burn Roms 3-10 to the SIMM for anyone :D |

I got a Darkstalkers done, and was working on an Alien Vs. Predator.

The J1 jumper move isn't needed for the 27C4096, but it is for the M27C322.

I had also read that changing J5 from 4x to 3x mode or even pulling the jumper altogether may resolve the issue I'm having (the roms are 32 Mbit)
How large are the roms you're using? 4 MBit? |

Posted - 01/16/2014 : 09:20:04 I should note, my friend said he had to add a 9v power supply to get enough power to the GQ-4X for it to write properly.
I wrote to MCUMALL on eBay about the fact that a power supply wasn't included and they said the USB should supply enough power. |

Posted - 01/16/2014 : 07:34:09 This is now happening to me as well. I'm attempting to write some M27C322 roms with the ADP-055 adapter and while it will pass a blank check, the writing at any speed will fail @ 1%. I have tried this repeatedly with 7 blank ROMs.
A friend of mine had a similar issue with the 40 Pin ZIF on the adapter. He stated that he needed to replace the 40 pin ZIF socket and that resolved the issue. I'm not sure if my issue is with the adapter or not. I burned a 40 pin M27C1024 with it last night, but it would randomly fail other IC's during a blank check. The 48 pin socket will pass the blank checks, but fail writes.
I personally have owned this for less than a month and I'm not satisfied at all with this purchase. |

Posted - 01/15/2014 : 17:56:26 It seems really usual that the first 6 chips would be good, and that the next 4 chips would be bad, doesn't it? Two of the good ones and two of the bad ones came from the same PCB.
Isn't it a bit more likely the programmer or adapter has failed? |

I tried going to 0 from +2, but will try going to -2 for the burn speed. I also gave the chips a little more time to try to erase last night, hopefully that combination will help. |

Posted - 01/15/2014 : 10:08:12 This has happened to me in the past. try slowing the burn speed down. it will take 20-30 minutes to burn them, but it should complete. |

Posted - 01/13/2014 : 10:21:42 They've been erased (two for 30 minutes, the other two for about 15-20), and test as blank in the GQ-4X.
Should I try erasing them again? I've heard spending too long in the eraser can damage the chips. |

Ive had old stock eproms need erasing (so the UV charges the gates) before you can program them. |
