Can this programmer id an IC? That is, is it possible to put an unknown chip in the ZIF and have the software tell me the name, manufacturer, designation of the EPROM? If so, how do you do this?

The programmer supports ID recognition.

However, user need to now the basic type of the chip, such as EPROM, EEPROM, Flash, PIC, 8051MUC etc.

This because different chip uses different way to ID it, the EPROM uses 12V voltage and this may damage some low voltage chip in the different basic type.

The device ID library is expendable, user is able to add new devices ID into the library.
