Posted - 09/23/2007 : 12:32:15 I picked up a new willem GQ-3X, trying to use this for some basic ecu rom tuning. I have several chips from SST (27SF512) and Winbond(27E512). I can read all roms fine except for 1 of the 27SF512, reading was inconsistent, sometimes data showed up, sometimes it didn't and the data read changed from time to time.
It successfully wrote 1 winbond and has not been able to write since. When trying to write data to ANY of the roms it does not work now. I tried switching USB ports and using a power supply, blanking the roms doesn't work but it reports that it does. Writing all FF's to a rom will appear to work but it doesn't actually write anything. Trying to write a valid rom will complain that the address it's trying to write does not match what appears on the rom. Im really confused at this point, is this thing just busted?
UPDATE: it seems my reading issues have been solved by using a 300mA 9v ps, however, I cannot erase any of the SST or Winbond roms. I tried every different speed, erasing does nothing to the rom, so I can't write any of them. What am I doing wrong with erasing? |

Posted - 09/24/2007 : 11:11:33 The chips definitely work, they were running my car. Location in the ZIF is correct, Ill try installing them in the socket and see if the socket can make a better connection with the ZIF. |

Posted - 09/24/2007 : 09:16:53 If you can not get a correct ID, then the chip may be a bad chip or has a poor contacting with ZIF socket. Also, check the chip's location in ZIF.
If you confirm your chips are good and all pins are clean and no contacting problem, then please contact support@mcumall.com for help. |

Posted - 09/23/2007 : 23:01:41 Can you ID the chip?
Those chips should be supported on read/write/erase with no problem.
Can you just try erase two or more times using the slowest speed?
