Just bought a brand new shiny GQ4x4 and tried to burn an EPROM.
Failed!
Ok, it's a 2716 so I tried an external power supply as that's what the help file suggested.
Failed!
Tried a batch of 2716 EPROMs, some virgin and some freshly erased.
Failed!
OK, try burning a file to a different EPROM type. Tried a 27C128.
Failed!
Nothing I do can write a file to an EPROM. I tried the eproms in a different programmer and they all seem to behave.
Additionally, when I try to read a pre-programmed chip, one that I know is good and I have a copy of the hexdump for, the GQ4x4 can't even seem to read the chip and then verify it consistently. Multiple reads often result in different checksums when the chip is read.
What do I need to do to burn a simple little 2k file to a 2716 25v chip with this programmer?!
Purchased from Amazon - serial number is unique. Using latest USB driver and software version from MCUMall. |
8 bits is plenty for anybody |

Yes.
Last one was Write Failed,Address0x00000000, Buffer 0xC3,Device,0xFF. That is with a virgin (unused) 2716. Same error with a couple of erased ones. Blank Check agrees the chip is indeed erased. |

Hardware test is ok? |

Hardware test is fine.
I didn't give up hope so found a couple of TMS 2516 chips which are read compatible with 2716 and they managed to program just fine, so that solved my problem. I then tried a 2716 again but it still failed for some reason.
I just have one project that requires 24 pin 2Kx8 chips so I'll go with the 2516 for this.
Programming PIC chips seems to be painless, so apart from the 2716 issue, all is well |

Did you try at lower speed? |

I tried all speeds, single and double write...made no difference.
The 2716 needs 50ms programming pulses, according to the datasheet, so I wonder if that is the problem? On my old Stag PP28 programmer it takes over a minute to burn a 2716. There is no indication in the software or the help files as to what the five programming speeds refer to on the GQ4x4. But 2048 locations x 50ms does imply a 102 second programming time.
