I excitedly unpacked our new GQ-4X tonight but repeatedly got the following message upon connecting it: Ready H/W Re: - H/W Re: - Initialization failed. Please reconnect.
This occurs whether or not DC power is supplied via the 2.1mm external power jack. The green "ON" LED is lit, but not the VCC or VPP LEDs.
The programming software does see the programmer however... it reports the following when Test H/W is selected: Hardware detected! Revision: GQ-4X Re-1.20 Serial #:I8=D<?BHHI
That fixed it... thanks! I used version 3.03 from your download link since the software was on a DVD and this particular PC has a CD-drive only.
It's still really slow though... should I be using the version 2 USB driver with the software? Even uninstalling the 1.0 driver and re-installing with the 2.0 driver, still leaves me with version 1.
USB driver 2.0 does not help on programming speed. The USB Willem programmer speed improved mainly on parallel EPROM, EEPROM, FLASH chips. Such as AM29LV320. You can try to select those chips and do a read without the chip.
