Hi,

I have been struggling with a Willem PCP3B for some time now. And it is not fit for my purposes (repairing old 8 bit SBC computers)
- program NMOS type EPROMS like 2716/32/64/128 and larger
- test SRAM IC's like 2114, 6116 and 6264
- test and fill Dallas non-volatile SRAM like 1230AB
- program bipolar PROMS like 82s123

Problems I encounter with the Willem are insufficient programming voltage, voltage drop in Vcc, limited Vcc testing facilities. I also am puzzled by the lack of updated software and lack of support in willem.org. I only succeeded in the past to program some 27c128 EPROMs but I have my doubts about how well they are programmed.

So I am in the market for a new programmer, with more quality for my jobs and good support. What I have seen here the G-3x/4x are good products, with a case available, no jumpers, with good software, a trustworthy shop (dont ask me for willem.org shop experience...) and support. The Willem brand is for me not a sign of quality though anymore. MCUMALL looks good!

But before buying I like to get some user experiences on my wishes.
- Positive experience with old NMOS EPROMs. No power supply issues?
- I do not see the SRAMs I need to test in the list of supported IC's. Are they supported or easy to add?
- in a recent post it was mentioned bipolar PROM support is possible?

Thanks,

Hans

Both GQ-3X and GQ-4X supports full range NMOS 27XXX series EPROMs, like 2716/32/64/128/256/512. No power issue.

There are some non-volatile SRAMs in the supported list, like DS1230AB.

For the SRAM, there is a 62256 in the list. But all others should be able to added if you have those chips for testings.

We do not have bipolar PROM testing chips. If you can provide use one or two testing chips with the data sheet, then it should be able to be added too. The adapter may be needed for those old chip.

Thanks ZLM,

I have ordered a GQ-4X just now.

Yes, I have those SRAM ICs for testing available. So when the programmer is here I can do the testing, if you help me with the settings.

Bipolar PROMS are rare and expensive. I have some, a pity they cant be erased.

I ordered the GQ-4X on May 5th. The programmer arrived today, which is amazing fast for a package from Canada to The Netherlands.

Works like a charm. Looks good, installs fine and does what a programmer should do. Recommended.
