Hi everyone Finally, i have bought a hot air station for desoldering the chips, i would like to buy two hot air nozzles, one for standard 8 pins 24Cxx, 25Cxx, 93Cxx.... and one for TSOP56 TE28F640 Is this the right one? http://www.mcumall.com/comersus/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=4407
and which one do i need for 24Cxx ?

yes. Those are standard size. It can fit 21~24mm hot gun. |

Hi The TSOP hot air nozzle does not cover all 28 pins on each side, making it very difficult to desolder the chip, having to move the nozzle across the pins loses heat... Does anyone know where i can buy a nozzle that covers all the pins of this flash TSOP56 chip ? Thanks

I use the smallest nozzle that came with my hotair station and have no problems. And thats doing 1 side at a time moving across the pins. |

Hi Are you talking about the TSOP56 ? Do you use a small round nozzle on one side a t a time ?

It should work. The nozzel does not need exact same width with chip. You need have some space between chip and the nozzel. The hot air will cover TSOP56 pins. |

Hi ZLM I have been told the space between nozzle and pins needs to be 1mm, is this correct ? I am using a preheating station, do you know which temperature i should set it to ?

I dont use a preheater.
Heat depends on airflow. Higher airflow needs more heat.
I have mine set to about 300c and airflow of 3 (out of 10).
But you will need to set what works for your setup.
1mm is wrong, more like 1-2CM |

Really?? I was told by an electronic engineer to place the nozzle 1mm away from the chip pins. I guess he was wrong then? I should try with your setting of 1cm and see what happens. My hot air flow settings are numbers, should I set it to 3rd or half the maximum setting? Is that right? Thanks guys for your help so far |

You shouldnt just use other peoples settings.
Start low and increase until it works for you. I suggest testing on a dead board, as if you set things too high you will burn the PCB. |

Hi guys, thanks for your help. It worked ok as you advised me to do on the TSOP 56, one side at a time with a round 5mm nozzle. I tried the correct nozzle to desolder SIC8 and nothing, it won't work! Can someone tell me what i'm doing wrong with this nozzle? I had to use the round 5mm nozzle as with my 2mm round nozzle it didn't work either. I ended up breaking the pads and i'm gutted!! Please give some advice

I use the same nozzle for pretty much everything. If you lifted pads on a SOIC8 - you were too impatient. Do not force the chip, just heat it up until you can poke it with a dental pick and it move. It should come off easily. |

Hi Bad_Ad84 This SOIC8 was a chip i already removed successfully, and resoldered it with no problems, then i had to desolder it again, and that's when the pads came off. Is it because i applied too much heat? not enough heat? or too much lifting pressure? i would like to know the reason so i don't do it again.. Also, using the air nozzles never work, with the SOIC8 nozzle i can't desolder the chip, even if i use it for 10 minutes, i always have to use the round nozzle. Using the round nozzle, 2mm, doesn't work either, i have to use the 5mm round nozzle. Which one do you use please? Also, when you use the dental pick, do you lift the chip and at the same time heat it up? or do you heat it up properly then use the dental pick? Thanks for your help |

I use the dental pick to VERY GENTLY lift the chip. like hardly any force at all, when the chip is ready to come off - you barely need to touch it for it to move. |

I apply heat to the chips legs at the same time as lifting it gently with the dental pick. Like I said, it takes a few seconds. |
