I think I damaged my GQ-3X by trying to read a bad PLCC32 28F010 - it had been read some time ago as a 29F010, hot to touch, *thought* I discarded it.

Anyway, now I can't correctly ID any known good chip in my collection (DIP28 27C256/27SF512, PLCC32 28F010, PSOP44 28F400). Is there anyway or any guide to ID and repair of what may be damaged? I don't mind having to buy another burner, but I need to have use of one NOW before the day is over and I am in a bit of a pickle.

Thanks!

Try any other chip. Then you can confirm the programmer works or not.

If programmer bad, then you may not be able to repair it yourself.

As originally stated, I have tried DIP28 27C256/27SF512, PLCC32 28F010, PSOP44 28F400. The burner is damaged.

I fix a lot of stuff, and as always the knowledge is often times situational, so i asked to shortcut the situation. I can sift datasheets to deduce what pins are toggled to check device ID, compare my results vs the ID listed in devices.txt to determine which pins are not responding, trace the circuit to relevant component(s) and replace. Test read/write on an inexpensive E/EPROM, deduce if any data or address pins are damaged, trace circuit again, etc.

Doing so while emotionally managing a customer standing over me is not going to happen, which is why I asked.

We do not have detailed GQ-3X hardware information for this level repairing.

Problem was: elderly laptop.

I purchased a new v1.51 firmware unit from the site, a used v1.00 firmware unit off of eBay w/ 16 bi EEPROM adapter board for a nice price, and neither worked when they arrived, either. I uninstalled/reinstalled USBPrg.exe and all three work...

Well, it's nice to have backups.

New GQ-3X?

USB driver loaded correctly?
Does the software detect the programmer?
What is the exact error?

USBPrg.exe would recognize all of the burners and their firmwares (1.00, 1.50, 1.51). It would not produce the correct (or any correct) Device ID. It would not read correctly, and I only attempted to write one 28F400 (did not Verify).

This laptop has had the same XP sp3 installation for the last five years, which is quite buggy by now, but I can not reinstall the OS, or migrate to another machine, without losing some license locked softwares. VMWare cloning is not possible due to a hardware/BIOS quirk - Thinkpad T61 with SATA drive operated in "compatibility mode" for use with XP, which results in clones producing BSOD 7b. But, I digress.

I see no fault of your product, or of your software. In fact, I am quite pleased that the original GQ-3X is undamaged despite what it has experienced, as that means it is a great product instead of a merely good one.

Thank you!
