Hello,

I posted an earlier message asking for help relating to the above mentioned bios chip. This chip is used on Hewlett Packard CQ58 laptops and is not in the supported device list of the GQ-4X. There is a way of adding a new device manually by adding an entry into the device list file but I do not understand the information in the chips data sheet to make my own entry.

HP are using this chip more frequently now and I need to know if the GQ-4X can support it. If not then I will have no choice but to dump this machine and purchase a competitors model.

kind regards
Roger

Try to read it as W25Q80, maybe they are similar. If reads then create a new entry with the GD25Q80 id and use the w25q80 line from devices file.
Worth a try before ZLM answers.

I have already tried to read it as a W25Q80 but it just shows up as an Apple device. When i search for Apple in the device list, nothing is found. What i have found if you select a device that closely matches that of the chip you are trying to ID but there is a slight mis-match of info between the device list and the chip, the programmer always identifies the chip as being that of Apple.

Many thanks for your help. I was able to use the info you provided and with an accompanying data sheet I was able to set up it's sister chip, the 25Q32BSIG. Both work fine. Again, many thanks.
