first of all, here are some bugs in the programming software(GQ USB Re. 1.06) i noticed almost immediately after using it for the first time. you will probably be aware of most of them because they are fairly obvious, but i'll post them nevertheless. i hope you'll find some time to fix them:

-when selecting "Buffer Byte Swap" from the drop-down-menu "Commands" or pressing "Ctrl+U", the software immediately crashes. The byte-swap works fine when pressing the "Byte Swap" button in the toolbar, though.

-when selecting a chip from "Devices -> Device List" before the software finishes initializing the usb-programmer, the software hangs and doesnt respond anymore.

-when quick-loading files from the drop-down-menu "File", the software will most of the time spit out an error ("Checksum Error reading Hexfile") if the file is bigger than 4mbits. doing it multiple times in one session usually crashes the software.

second, i have a huge problem programming 16bit eproms.
however, i'm not sure if this is a software or hardware issue.
here's my setup:
-GQ USB Programmer Revision: GQ-2X Re-1.00
-generic willem 16bit adapter from sivava.com (http://www.sivava.com/image_B12.htm)
-eproms: 27c160,27c322,27c4002

now here's the problem:
i can read out all these eproms perfectly fine, but i can't program any of them. the software always returns a write error on the first adress.
in the first place, i thought the 16bit adapter or the power supply was at fault, but VPP reads out correctly and the outputs on the adress and data bus seem to be fine.
also, reading data from any of these devices works absolutely fine, as i said before.

thats why i'm guessing that this is another bug in the software.
did you actually test to program any of the above-mentioned eproms?
i thought about buying your 16bit adapter(http://www.mcumall.com/comersus/store/comersus_viewItem.asp?idProduct=3169) just to be on the safe side, but since it is basically exactly the same as the standard willem 16bit adapter, (apart from the zif-socket, of course)
i have a hard time believing that it will cure my problem.

to put it in a nutshell:
before buying yet another adapter, i would like to know if you have actually programmed any of the following eproms successfully with your GQ usb programmer yourself: 27c322, 27c160, 27c4002

thanks for your time.
greets,
pepe

check followings:
1. use different speed.
2. switch J5 on adapter.
3. confirm all pins are contacting god.
4. confirm the reading is correct before write.
5. make sure your chip is a good chip.

If still des not work, you may need to send a chip to mcumall for further testing and find out a solution.

I've tried everything in this thread so far to get my ST M27C322 chips to burn with the ADP-054 16-bit adapter on a GQ-4X, but no luck. I made sure J1 was set to 27C322. All voltages passed in the voltage diagnostic.

Reading and blank checking work fine, but when I go to write, I get this error every time:

Write Failed, Address=0x000000, Buffer=0x9C Device=0x80

I bought this programmer just for these chips, please help!

Makesure the device information(my previous post)is correct. Only 2.08Beta has this correct info.

Check the contacting of chip and adapter. untill it read correctly.

Thanks ZLM
checked all you told but still the same prob
i had the same prob with my old version 1.15 , i just upgrade to 2.07 and i worked fine but now without changing anything it doesn't work anymore even with version 2.08 beta
i'll try to uninstall driver and all to see
ZLM Posted - 06/19/2008 : 07:56:09
What is your hardware model? GQ-3X or GQ-2X?

The HN27C4096 is the tested chip with Re2.08Beta. Please confirm you have selected correct device type from the device list "HN27C4096".

Try use a 9V external power adapter see if any difference.
Try slow down the speed.

Also, check the device information as following picture:

hello
everything works great but now without doing anything special i've got error on programing HN27C4096
Blank check is working but can't write any of my HN27C4096 eproms but i can write D27C4096 and TMS 27C240 without problem
here is the message i got
"device write failed at address : 0x000000 , buffer=0x84 device=0xFF

do you know if it's due to upgrade software ?

I fixed the problem last night.

There was a jumper on the 16bit adapter with 2 positions. Position 1 was labeled "27c322", position 2 was labeled "POS2". I figured since 27c160 and 27c322 chips were very similar, they'd use the same jumper configuration. That was incorrect... I had to put the jumper on POS2 in order for it to write.

I just tried it with and without the power adapter, and unfortunately it fails instantly every time. The chip is indeed blank, it can read and blank check the M27c160 no problem.

Is it possible the adapter I purchased is bad? Is it worth purchasing one of the ones that is offered on mcumall.com's store for testing? I'd hate to waste $25+ if its the programmer thats at fault here.

The 27C160 is supported on GQ-3X. We have confirmed M27C160 chip on this programmer.

From our testing, we also found the Dual power willem does not work for M27C160, it fails randomly with unknow reason.

Try with and without the power adapter.

I can't post the image or edit my post, so here's the link of the adapter I purchased:

I'm currently running a GQ-3X USB programmer and have had no problem programming 40pin 16 bit eproms. I recently upgraded the 16bit adapter to this one so that I could program some 27c160 and 27c322 chips:

I'm unable to burn to my 27c160 eproms with this combo. When the chip writing fails, I receive this error message "Device write failed at address: 0x000001, Buffer=0xe3 Device=0xff".

Has this problem been resolved? Am I using an incorrect adapter? The seller said the adapter supports 27c160 and 27c322 which is what I'm trying to burn. I've also tried plugging in the 3pin harness into the appropriately marked pins.

Please help.
Thanks
Bill

I am getting that same exact problem too when trying to program 27C160 chips. I have not had a problem programming a few other IC's using the 16bit adapter from sivava.com (Trying to remember the part numbers off the top of my head but can't think of them right now). It is just on trying to program the 27c160's, it fails immediately.

I am using the Willem Enhanced Universal Programmer with the 16bit adapter from sivava.com.

I know this main topic is for the GQ-2X model but a search lead me to this, as this problem is identical to mine.

Any help or pointing me in the right direction of find help would be great appreciated. Thanks!

I have exactly the same problem with the 27C322 and MCUMALL 16-bit adapter.

Programming fails almost immediately reporting a failed write at address 00 device contents FF buffer contents 00.

I am able to program a 27C322 on a WIllem parallel/USB programmer with the same adapter. I am able to read an verify the 27C322 using the adapter in my Willem USB programmer - just can't write it.

I got "mariorpgdeutsch.smc" from "32mbit_test.rar" and reproduced the problem. The bug will be fixed in the next release.

I will contact you via email for the chip 27c322 and 27c160 issue.

i tried to reproduce it, but wasnt able to, either.

here is a file that gives me this error when first loading it with the normal "file->open..."-menu, then quick-loading it from the "file" pull-down menu. the unpacked file is 32mbit/4mbyte in size.

i have made a small mistake in my first post.
i tried writing a 27c4002 again today and it worked absolutely fine, even without using a power supply.

27c322 and 27c160 however still dont work, as reported in my first post.
the exact error is "Device write failed at adress at 0x000000, Buffer=0x80 Device=0xff".
i'm very, very interested in getting the 27c322 and 27c160 to work with your programmer. after all, i bought it just to be able to program these chips.
i agree that 27c322s are very rare. if you have trouble finding one, i would be glad to send one of these over to you.

The 10uf Electrolytic Capacitor basically is used for fillering the noise. After test, I found it is works much better if we have it.

thanks alot for the hint.
i added the cap you mentioned to my 16bit adapter, but it didnt improve anything for me.(i never had any read or write errors with 27c4002 eproms, i guess noise isnt my problem.)

Pepe,
Thank you very much for your message and the bug you reported. We appreciated you did lots of testing on our "True-USB Willem".

We tested 3 software bugs you reported.

1. "Ctrl+U" crash. Yes. it is reproduced here. This will be fixed in the next software release.
2. Software hangs when "Devices -> Device List" before the software finishes initializing. We are unable to reproduce this bug. It may be happened under a specific case. To fix this bug, we need more testing/info on this bug. Till we can reproduce it.
