I've got Vista (64-bit) and a new GQ-4X that just arrived in the mail, and I installed 3.01b (freshly downloaded), and I consistently get the following error:

-----
Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device

GQ USB Programmer

The system cannot find the file specified.
-----

Anyone else seeing this? Does the driver even support 64-bit Vista?

Programmer will work with 64 bit windows. Somehow your system does not load the driver.

Try following steps:

1. uninstall the driver manually.
2. disconnect the programmer
3. download and reinstall the new build from:
http://www.mcumall.com/download/TrueUSBWillem/GQUSBPrgRe3.02BetaC.zip
4. connect the programmer, windows should be able to install the driver automatically.

Thanks for the reply. I uninstalled the old GQ USB Programmer package, installed the new package (3.02c), and then plugged in the GQ-4X. At this point, it seemed to find the files OK, but then it complained that the drivers were unsigned, and that 64-bit Vista requires signed drivers.

So what should I try next?

...oh, and after it says it failed because the driver is unsigned, the Windows Device Manager at least recognizes the device as "GQ USB Programmer" instead of "Unknown Device", but it has a little exclamation-point-in-a-yellow-triangle icon, and when I bring up the properties, it says "Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)". When I run the USBPrg software, it pops up a message box that says "Did not get response from programmer."

It seems the software need to be updated on this "unsigned" issue. The driver works on Windows XP64.
It may take a few days.

Well, I have a short term solution. If you reboot your machine, after the BIOS POST but before the Microsoft loading bar comes up, you need to press F8. That should being up a menu with alternate boot choices. One of those choices will allow windows to make use of unsigned drivers until the next time the system is rebooted. After doing that, the drivers worked great.

Thank you for your short term solution. This is great way for now. We are working on the software now and will post new build later.

Well, M$ is well-known for changing links like socks :/. Here should be the requirements:

and here the walkthrough (download the KMCS_Walkthrough.doc):

Now the GQ USB driver 2.0 (32/64 bit)is ready.

http://www.mcumall.com/download/TrueUSBWillem/USBDriverV2.0_32_64Bit.zip

Downlaod the software Re.4.0 beta from here:

h**p://wwww.mcumall.com/download/TrueUSBWillem/GQUSBPrgRe4.0Beta.exe

If the old USB driver already installed, then you have to completely unintall the old USB driver first(from Device Manager and check "Remove the driver file" check box). If it does not remove the driver file, then manually remove the "GQw2k.inf and GQw2k.PNF" from "windows\inf" directory(some windows created oem??.inf file need to remove too. ?? is two digits here), and remove the "ezusb.sys" from "windows\system32\drivers" directory.

When start up the software, it should show the "USB Driver Re 2.0" in the message window.

Driver works very well, thanks a lot

Installation of Re4.0 has got a big problem : it can't write the key "Versionminor" in [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\18E37F0EB584D4546A3F4E0BA248D09B\InstallProperties]
I had to manually create it. As I doesen't know the correct value, I put the one found in "VersionMajor" : 0004

So I have :
"VersionMajor"=dword:00000004
"VersionMinor"=dword:00000004
and I can then launch the programm (the whole key disappear after first launching)

Thanks for the feedback.

It seems you do not have right to access the registry.
The key is not used, the error can be ignored during the installation.

We will check the installation procedure.

The new bild should fix the registry issue.

www.mcumall.com/download/TrueUSBWillem/GQUSBPrgRe4.0Beta4.exe

For the new build software install on Vista 64, a separate USB device driver installation step is needed. User need to use USB2.0 driver for Vista 64 bit. Read the readme.txt in driver pack see detailed information.

Not working for me :(. I don't have any existence of the old driver and when I go to install this new 2.0 driver it instantaneously says it can't install this new driver for the device. I have removed the gqw2k.inf, ezusb.sys and also any registry entries that have been left behind from previous attempts. I'm using vista x64 sp1 btw.

What is exact error code?

If old USB driver Re.1.0 installed, then completely remove it. See readme.txt in driver pack.

The correct USB driver re2.0 for Vista 64bit installation steps are:

1) Download the driver package required from one of the links given below.
http://www.mcumall.com/download/TrueUSBWillem/USBDriverV2.0_32_64Bit.zip
2) Create a folder on the root of drive C - e.g. 'GQ USB Vista64 drivers' and unzip the driver package into it.
3) Connect the programmer with your PC and wait for the 'New hardware found' message to appear.
4) Select the 'Locate and install driver software' option. Select 'Continue' if Vista asks for permission.
5) Select 'Don't search online'.
6) Select 'I don't have a disk - show me other options'.
7) Select 'Browse my computer for driver software (advanced)'.
8) Browse for your folder on drive C and select it.
9) Windows will find the driver but Windows can not verify the software. It will ask you for permission to install it - select 'Install this driver software anyway'.
10) After a short delay you should see the message that 'The software for this device has been successfully installed' GQ USB Programmer

Shaz, I had same problem first time : it was because there where traces of the old driver.
I can't remember exactly where I have hunt thoses fuc..... files, but I have busted all of them
After that, little reboot, and installation was perfect.

PS : I've got the same HWID than yours : « USB\VID_0547&PID_2131&REV_0004 », so that is good

Uninstall the driver and disconnect the programmer.

Check all files in .\Windows\inf directory. Search all file content with "GQ" key word. Confirm the file if found any. Delete it if it is GQ USB programmer driver. Especially on file name start with "OEMxx" where the "xx" are the digits.

Ok, well I have been doing a lot of removing. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the usb roots, uninstalled all devices that are not in use under usb devices and again. When I install the very latest GQ USB Prog(4.0b4) it extracts the GQw2k.inf to windows\inf and the ezusb.sys to windows\sysWOW64\drivers if that matters. Also I have seen the progress bar when attempting to install the driver. I checked all the OEM files and none were related to GQ and tried safe mode with no success. Grrr..

So far this is the first time reported the 2.0 driver does not work on Vista 64. Needs more testing to find out why. Try on another computer?

The USB Driver Re2.0 you have to install and get it to work first before install the Re4.0 software.

Because the current Beta Re4.0 software will install the USB driver RE1.0 automatically. It will copy the GQw2k.inf file into windows/inf directory.

There is a testing version USB driver. You can try it. Only test the USB driver if loaded correctly. This test driver does NOT work with software. So, do not try to run software.

Well, after hours of trial and error I finally got the driver to work with the software (I am not sure it is the right way). I found that windows was looking for a setup class at the initialization of installing the driver and it was commented out in the inf so I took off the semi-colon and it would recognize! But, it would fail to install still. So the setupapi log was telling me to add a [ClassInstall32] to the inf so I did and it finally went through the whole process and is now functioning correctly. I installed the software and it recognized the hardware and I was reading from SST chips in no time.

Now though in my device manager it has a separate section for the GQ USB Programmer. It created a section called "USB" right under the universal serial bus controllers section. ZLM, maybe you get that fixed out in the inf I provided.

Awesome ZLM, you provide excellent support! I can confirm this new driver works on my Vista X64 system w/ SP1. I am sure it will work for everyone else too. I was able to read and verify my chips as before. It is also under the right class now too.

Just so everyone else knows, you need to install this driver before the GQ Programmer software. Might want to add that to the readme I don't think I saw it in there.

The WINUSB.DLL will be installed during the software installation in XP 64 bit.

Anyway, the USB driver Re1.0 will work with XP 64 bit. Just ignore the unsigned driver warnning message during the driver installation.

The WINUSB.DLL is supported with XP Serice Pack 2 or Later.
Check your XP if installed SP2.

Also check if the WinUSB.dll been copied into the GQUSBprg application folder too.

The USB driver Re1.0 will work with XP 64. That is tested. The 2.0 should work too.

The 1.0 driver does not work. "The specified location does not contain a compatible software driver for your device. If the location contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with windows for x64-based systems" 2.0 works but the software doesn't. The software that came with the programmer works, but the driver doesn't.

Do not back to Vista, we can fix all issues with WinXP 64 bit.

Found a bug in Re.4.0Beta5 software setup file when running in WinXP 64bit. It should install the WINUSB.DLL file but it does not.

Please use this version:
http://www.mcumall.com/download/TrueUSBWillem/GQUSBPrgRe4.0Beta5B.exe

The driver for WinXP 64 bit should use USB driver 2.0.

Do you have a good Windows 7 instruction for the GQ-4X True USB Programmer? When plugging into Windows 7, device manager sees an "Unkown Device" under the "Other Devices" catagory. Can't update driver (what driver)? Any help would be great. I have upgraded all my computers have been upgraded to Windows 7.

Kim Kardashian has revealed that she intended to start trying for babies just four weeks before she decided to split from her NBA husband Kris Humphries. The pair brought an end to their marriage after just 72 days, and it has been one of the biggest talking point in recent times. Many have been criticising Kim Kardashian by saying that the whole marriage was a setup. However, the TV reality star has revealed that she badly wanted to have some babies, and that they were about to try for the same just weeks before splitting.
One of the main reasons being spoken about for their split has been their work schedule. Kim Kardashian agreed regarding the same by saying that Kris Humphries was keen on relocating to Minnesota, while she was not on the same wavelength.
