PRG-036 AVR JTAG ICE and AVRISP 2in1 programmer V2

For the AVRISP and JTAG ICE programmer V2 firmare update, It only can update the JTAG firmware.

For the JTAG firmware update, please follow the following steps:

1. Connect the programmer V2 and check which comport is assigned to the V2. Only COM1 to COM4 will be checked. If your V2 comport is greater than COM4, then you have to change it.

2.From AVR Studio, select menu Tools->AVR Prog... then it will detect the programmer and show the upgade window. See picture.

3. Clik on Browse botton and locate the Hex file "Upgrade.ebn" from following location:

"C:\Program Files\Atmel\AVR Tools\JTAGICE"

4. Click on Flash Program, it should start to upgrade the firmware. Once program finished, it will start to verify and gives the verify error. That because the programmer has both AVRISP and JTAG firmware, not only the JTAG firmware. Ignore the error message.

5. Disconnect programmer and reconnect it again. It should be ready for use.

Hello,

I bought a 2in1 programmer a few months ago.
And I've to say, it's a good product.
But now I've a question.
Is is also possible to update the ISP Firmware?
So I can programm the new XMega- Series now?

Thank's a lot,
Michael

No. Only JTAG can be upgraded. The JTAG still can be used as programmer too.
