I know some users are trying to program the device which is grayed out in the device menu. Here just want to know how to do that.

There are some devices were grayed out in the device menu list. Is there anyway to turn on those chips?

The gray out chips are either not implemented or not fully tested chips. So, that may not work even you turn on it.

However, it's good to try.

Please note, we can not turn on the software grayed out chip item. We
only can force the software to select it by default. So we just need
change the default chip when software start up.

Here is the procedure for selecting a gray out chip: eg. PIC 16C84.
1.start the software.
2.select chip PIC 16F84
3.exit from software.
4.click on windows Start button, then select Run item.
5.type Regedit in the input box and click OK. Your registry editor should be up.
6. click "Edit" then "Find", find "PIC 16F84"
7. The editor should stopped at "DEVICE PIC 16F84" item.
8. Right click this item and select "Modify" item in the drop menu list. Change the value to "PIC 16C84" and then click OK.
9.start the software again and you will see the "PIC 16C84" is current default device.
