Hi, I've noticed that some devices used by Intel as ROM BIOS for their motherboards don't exactly fit the size of the BIOS image files in .BIO format from their website. Has anyone tried flashing these images with the GQ-4X? An example is the W25Q32BVIS chip which is 32 Mbit (4 MBytes file when read by the GQ-4X) but it has .BIO files which are up to 9505KB (9.28 MBytes) long (version BE0048), or even 13501KB (13.18 Mbytes) long (version BE0099), for a motherboard such as DH61WW.

What is the correct way to deal with these images in order to flash them with the GQ-4X? Thanks in advance for all the light you can shed on this subject,

M

This chip is a 32MBit means 32 Mega-byte chip, means this chip can hold 32mb of data (i think so),so it can esaily hold a 9.28MB or 13.18mb of flash file

and about the programmer i read on this forum that many users gets errors about reading this type of chips, you will surly finds a ans. within this forum if you search.

Peoples getting errors on 4 and 8 MB of chips and give some solution for it,

i write many INTEL Board ROM's by this Programmer (GQ-4x) as intel MB's have a bad BIOS Prob. v common.but i read all my BIOS File from a good MB or download from web in a *.bin or *.ROM Format, never use a *.BIO format, but i read somewhere on net that if we change the file extation with *.rom then we can write it, tried it ONCE but with no Luck?

Fortunately this problem does not apply to me, all reads give me the same data and no FFs after 33f360. I'm using USBPrg 6.23, if that helps people with the reading problem. Also I have flashed these chips in other circumstances and have no problem doing it with v6.23, available from http://www.mcumall.com/comersus/store/mcumall_download.asp

Will the newly flashed board retain its own serial number and ethernet MAC address, or is it replaced by the one on the healthy board you read the image from? That's all that I'm concerned about since this board is not mine and I wouldn't like to mess with its IDs (it belongs to a company and that could cause them software licensing issues). TIA,

M

OK which software this company use?
if it's a Windows based Pc then i don't think they will have any problem regarding the Licensing, even in windows vista or windows 7 which use some BIOS data to activate itself, because you are using a BIOS from the same Manufacturer and from the same model of the MB.But only when you make the dump yourself because when we download from net or from a forum (there are many providing BIOS Dumps), then there are chances they will give you a Modified BIOS , i write many Laptop dumps in this given way but never get a license issue on a windows based PC ( or you can say nobody reported it till now )

the only thing you can worried about is Serial No. of the MB, This will void warranty, but even company's Service center will not care about it when they get it back in Dead / no display Condition.

i remember that once i repaired three Intel 101 MB's with same Serial no's, even all the INTEL CPU's of a same family like IntelŪ PentiumŪ M Processor 735 have same Identifier SL7EP Printed on it.

But overall it's a Hardware based View and i don't know much about the Software

ok i do some Google and find the following Link

https://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=18672&keyword=%22%22integrator+assistant%22%22&DownloadType=Software+Applications&lang=eng

it's IntelŪ Integrator Assistant Tool Link, Read the Detailed Description Section or just last few world of Paragraph the lines says "configuration file that can be transported to other similar target computers." that means a same model of MB can have same BIOS Dump, the mac address are UNIQUE but they are not written in the BIOS (i think So), they are generated by some Combination of hardware PID's.

The Physical Serial no's are just to identify the MB's age, factory Unit where it's manufactured, you tell a trained intel Sales Person your MB's serial no, He can be able to tell you everything about the MB like warranty, model and manufacturing unit name, Date, Year, Month etc etc. ASUS use Physical serial no's for this type of Purpose, Because they use it only for their Inventory Purpose.

it's sure your MAC Address will gets Change but it will be still UNIQUE..

But it's Still a Dummies Opinion............

This is incorrect. 32Mbit means 4 megabytes (no hyphen in megabytes ) 32 M (uppercase "M" means mega, so multiply by 1,000,000. the "b" should be lowercase to signify that it is bits not bytes (bytes require an uppercase "B") and you are already specifying that they are bits (32MBit), otherwise you would say "32MBytes" but again , the "MB" in uppercase already means its in megabytes , so the "ytes" is futile. 8 bits are required to make a byte, so 32 Mbits / 8 = 4 Megabytes

The most important thing here is that the chip he mentions really is 32Mbits, so the bios files as they are will not fit. Sorry I cannot help with that, I just wanted to correct Naughty because its important information.
