Hi there! I'm trying since today to burn a 27C160 with no luck. I've tried on 8 chips without success. I successfully burnt one last week. 27C322 seems to be ok. My file seems (2M) to be ok (already put it on some AM29F016) And yes I put the J1 jumper into position 1-2.
My GQ-4X makes random errors when trying to burn them. I erased the chip and try to reburn 3 times with no luck. I've mark on stickers the % where I got errors on each chip, and it change at each tries: it's going from 2% to 87%, and one chip can stop at 10%, then go to 57% at the second try, then fail at 22% at the third.
Here's an exemple of what I have on my message log (8 tries, 8 different chips):
<<M27C160>>

Have tried to change the USB port where the GQ-4X is plugged. I'm using a SW Re. 6.34

Try followings:
1. Try to switch the V3/V4 on the adapter. 2. Make sure the chip pin contacting are good. As well as adapter to programmer contacting are good. 3. Use slower speed. 4. change to another computer and see makes different. 5. Another problem possibility is from the EPROM itself. 6. try to increase the EPROM erase time.

Hi,
As I said, I've tried with 8 differents 27C160 EEPROM, each one failed 3 times (well now four). All of them where erased for 1 hour before each tries. The LOG I gave you where the latest tries on the 8 chips. Contacts on chips, on ZIF socket of the ADP-054 and on ZIF socket of the GQ-4X are good, cleaned with Kontakt60. If the contacts wheren't good I should have errors with 27C322 EEPROM too, but they are working fine. Slower speed or the V3 jumper doesn't change anything. I would understand one or two deffective chips. But eight?

Today I got another chip successfully burnt: 6 more to go. This chips failed at 14% at the previous try (I wrote the latest % on each chip). It's totally random: a chip who previously failed to 85% can fail at 2% the next try.
I've tried with an additionnal power supply: no changes. I've burnt this week-end M27C322, AM29F800BB, M27C801, AM29F032B/016B without problem though. This is so weird. |

It seems the some noise may be the causes. You can try to use another USB cable? Another computer? |

Hi, Since my last response I got 2 other chips successfully burnt. But man, this is so tidious. It took me something like 10 tries. Both of them were burnt with the additional power supply and set the software to 27C160 (and not M27C160)
I'm currently trying to burn the others Still 4 to go.
If I'm still getting errors I'll try with an other usb cable and at the last resort my Surface Pro 3. |

Ok so I've tried an other USB cable without succes.
But I've tried USB3 port from the back of my computer and... got 3 in a row successfuly!
For now I need: - USB3 port - Additional PSU - set to 27C160 (compatible)
I'll try just with the USB3 only on the next try.
Only one left. :)
Only one left. :) |

Normally, the USB3 port as more power and less noise in design.
