I bought my programmer from MCUmall about 2-3 years ago. I bought the ADP-019 with it, because I always wanted to program the MX29LV160 for the Sega Dreamcast bios.
I have tried over 3 ics, and they never do an ID check properly, not one has detected correctly. I have tried all combinations of the jumpers and I have 0 success.
I sent official support an email about this , and they wanted me to send the Adaptor back for checking...I stay in South Africa, exporting and importing can get expensive quickly. So they refunded me for the adaptor. That still hasn't left the idea that it works though? Does the ADP-019 V4.1 actually write to MX29LV160TMC ics? After buying the programmer, I can't do the programming I needed to.
Over and above this, support for LOGIC ic testing, and GAL and PAL writing and dumping is so limited. Not to mention missing devices in the database.
Ontop of this, I've been following these forums, and I see some people just ignored and left without solution. Also, some posts where the OP asks a question, theres a reply sometimes, then another question from OP, and then, gone, ghost town when things get difficult, or there is 0 solution. Honestly, I just don't feel the MCUmall team is up to scratch.
The device is expensive, adaptors, they are expensive and I have just found the whole ecosystem lacking and disappointing me time and time again over the years.
A friend borrowed me his MiniPro TL866II and I was shocked by how well it worked. I searched for some ICS and found ones not supported by the GQ4x4 such as the 29F016 , 29LV002TC, MX26L6420MC and a few others over the years.
I am now in the midst of window shopping for the newer XGecu T48, and will soon pull the trigger and buy it. The ecosystem of adaptors and support looks promising, even though there is probably an anaemic support system from XGecu, at least the device seems like the community can do this with it and develop things. Its even supported in Linux, the TL866. Not the GQ4x4, due to some concern about people making unofficial builds of the software etc. We are not children and there are lots of responsible, smart people out there who would maintain the GX4x4 project in UNIX quite fine. But you are holding onto your IP. If it was as robust as you think it is, then maybe you could behave that way, but it isn't, so relax and let the community work with you to make it better. Im ranting, but Im tired of this ecosystem.
Ive asked a question about the ADP-019 V4.1 and whether someone has ever successfuly erased, written and verified a MX29LV160, and I see to this minute about 34 people read it, but no guides, no replies. Ghost town.
The amount of posts, people asking for help or showing an issue with the GQ4X or 4x4, and then at the end having to buy a different programmer to solve their issue, is shocking.
Sorry but I will be raligating the GX4X4 to the bottom drawer, and using it as a backup. It will no longer be my main device that I held high, not because the device is bad, in fact its wonderfully engineered, its the people, the name, the support that let me down.
Cheers, tired of MCUmall, its attitude and the poor support and replies to the community. |
