Using the latest software on GQ-4x4, I'm trying to program a PIC18F4520. I attach the programmer, set the device to the PIC18F4520*DIP40, Load the .hex file. Odd thing, is once and a while it tells me the file is too big for the chip and truncating. When I go to program the chip, though, I get -

Any ideas what might be the issue? I tell it to override, and it writes, and apparently tries to write again and gets stuck at 6.25% .

TBTH I can't get it to program in a Pickit5 either. I try to connect to the chip and get "Target Device ID (0x0) is an Invalid Device ID. Please check your connections to the Target Device.". The user SWEARS these chips were programmed before using a Pickit3 and heard that something later than that might not work. Not sure how this is valid.

Any thoughts on something to try to get it working?

Tnx, Tuc
