Trying to read/write a ST (SGS-Thompson Microelectronics)model ST 95040.
I have a GQ-4X which I just received, when I select the device I go to:
serial eeprom, ST, M95040
The program says no adapter required, but that is obviously incorrect. I am using a SOIC8 adapter which I purchased from MCUMALL.
The chip reads as though it is entirely blank, I also get the same result without errors and it verifies with nothing in the socket at all?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Check all pin contacting under a magnify glass.
Use blank check to confirm the chip is blank.
You can try to write some data and see if it can be verified after write.
