can you confirm which adapter is needd for MX29LV160CBTC-90G TSOP48 on the gq-4x? i have the 8/16bit adapter and extended pin header, the chip is recognised, can be fully read, erased an blank verified but atempting to write gives write results in write failed errors at random locations... |

The 8/16 bit adapter is correct.
Can you verify after the read? This will confirm if the reading has no random error.
Check the VCC jumper is on the 5V position.
Try to slow down the speed to write.

yes i can ferify after the read, i can do all functions on the chip - even verify lock status (all unloclked) the only thing i cannot do is write!
have tried on all speeds, oddly i seem to get forther wit the adapter set to 28f instead of 29f, 3.3v or 5v makes no difference to the result
i am noticing that the vpp light goes out a fraction of a secnd before the error, and in the case of the chips that dont start to flash vpp never comes on
i am not alone wit this issue, have been contcted by someone on another forum having the same problems
can read and write other tsops, pics and spi chips fine, its just these 29lv160s that are being difficult
have ensured gq-4x is the only usb device connected incase it was some usb bus conflict

seems to be sorted now... my problems were due to some odd sw issue, manually deleting the drivers and infs and reinstalling 3.03 sorted it, the other persons problems were down to them not realising the 4x needed the extended data header - for the cost of that header should it not be bundled wiith the programmer? |

That is odd. It should not related to the USB driver.
The extended address header only needed when using old adapter. All new V2.0 or later adapters do not need this header. So, it is optional item. If you buy it separately, the price only $0.99 at its cost.
In case users forgot to buy this header,and need to connect address urgently, then all address pin are available on the programmer PCB. User can open the programmer case and connect the address line directly.
Address pin header on PCB:

i cannot find the v2 adapters in the online store... only v1 and the chances are a lot of prople buying the 4x will be paralell willem upgrades so will have the v1 adapters already...
an easier way to get at those extended address lines is by clamping pinheaders in the zif
A19 = zif pin 4 A20 = zif pin 37 A21 = zif pin 38
