Are any adapters needed for these chips I know the 2x, 3x needed them due to 32 pin socket they are both 16 bit chips

I forgot to say does the GQ-4X need the adapters for 16 bit chips as long as the chip fits?

Yes. The GQ-4X needs adapter for 16 bit EPROMs. Like ADP-054 and ADP-055
