Hi
Yesterday, i tried to burn some Hitachi HN27C4096-G12 eprom wich require the 16 bit adapter.
1)Blank verification was OK, but got write failure almost instantly. Tried this with 5 differents chips, different bin images, but failed.
2)Then, i tried with 27C322 eproms. write goes until 25%, then the progression bar stucks. orange led goes off on the programmer. I had to shutdown the programing software, and start it again, but programmer is not detected. (unplugging then re plugging usb cable made programmer beeing detected again by the software).
3)I decided to try burning some 27c1001 (128k) which does not require the 16 bit adapter and burning went well...
4)i performed also an hardware test in the programming software option and all passed OK.
I really cannot understand, because i already programmed dozens of these chips with the GQ-4X.(27c4096 and 27c322).
The difference, is that before, i used the burner on a laptop with Windows xp pro, 32 bits. Now im using windows 7 ultimate 64 bits on desktop.
Programming software version is last 6.0 driver is 2.01.
So my questions are:
1)could it be related to OS being 64bit? (unfortunately, i do not have the xp 32 bit laptop anymore,..) 2)could the 16 adapter being broken?(is there a way to confirm it?) 3)Should i try remove the capacitor? 4)Should i change some jumper setting? but where, on the adapter? inside the programmer? 5)Could be pin contact issue?(i always do the trick to prevent bad pin contact, but i admit, had always a lot of difficulty to burn successfully HN27c4096 eprom...those are really problematic crap to both erase and burn..)

It should not relate to OS.
Try followings: 1.change a USB cable and USB port see if it makes different. 2.are you able to confirm the chip 27C4096 reading is good? 3.are you able to test the programmer with your old laptop? that is just for eliminate the problem. |

Arf, edited my post.
1)changed usb port, different controller (with pci usb card) 2)what do you mean by reading is good? i can read, check blank, but fail writing 3)no, remain only win 7 desktop..
Thank you

The write fail could be caused by more than one factor. This HN27c4096 been reported has some compatibility problems. If your adapter is not V4.0 version, then you can try to remove the 10uf capacitor. The V4.0 has a jumpter to disconnect the capacitor. |

Hi,
I checked and i have v3.0 adapter.
So should i remove the cap?Does i have to short the points after removing?
Also, there is a 4 pin header marked A20, A21,P1 and A19.It has no jumper. Is that correct?
Thanks
I just recovered from the "grave" an XP thin client. i will try with and post the result.

Ok..
I managed to install driver and programming software on the Thin client. OS: Windows XP Embedded
Was able to burn as before..27c322, HN27c4096g-12.
So, there is something wrong with the Windows 7 machine.
I have to say, that there is a Wifi-dongle connected to usb port of windows 7 machine..
So, can some usb device, interfer with GQ-4X programmer communications?
Still, there is really a big compatibility issue with those crap HN27C4096G-12. I don t think GQ-4X programmer is the main issue, it is very good device.
But those chips are real pure Hitachi craps. So difficult to erase, so slow to burn.
Any way to improve compatibility, other than removing capacitor from the adapter??
I have to burn lot of these chips, and it take twice the time to burn two of these buggers than burning 10 ST 27c322...
Any advise is welcome.
I really hope MCumall will improve compatibility with hn27c4096 in future software release.
Thanks

You can try to connect the programmer to a USB hub and then connect the USB hub to computer. This will test if the computer USB port has compatibility issue.
You can remove the 10uf Capacitor from the adapter, no short pin after remove. No harm anyway. |

Hi,
Thank you ZLM for your help. I will try to remove the cap and see if there is improvement with HN27c4096g-12.
All other chips never fails, only those.
